Genius Gluten Free Crumpets Taste Test

If you’re a coeliac or you are on a strict gluten free diet, how long has it been since you’ve had something as simple as a crumpet? For me it’s been about 1,856 days (I’m not even kidding).

I see packets of crumpets at Aldi for $1.00 a pack and I buy them for the rest of the household, each time dying a little inside and hating this disease a little more.

Guess what?? Genius brand heard my cries and now make gluten free crumpets!!! I couldn’t wait to try these and so of course I talked it up inmy own head believing that they would be exactly like “normal” crumpets.

Upon opening the pack there was a very distinct smell that was slightly off putting  however I continued with the taste test. It took quite a while to get them to a crunchy toasted consistency but that could have just been my fancy (not fancy) toaster. Once toasted, I lathered with butter and honey and shoved it in my mouth. The cooked consistency was very light and fluffy which I don’t think I’m a fan of. I should know better but I really was expecting the rubbery type texture that gluten provides.  They also had the typical gluten free sweetness about them which was OK with honey but may conflict with the flavours of savoury toppings.

As a gluten free alternative, it didn’t quite hit the mark for me. In saying that, I will purchase them again because if I wasn’t comparing to the gluten containing kind, they were quite nice as a breakfast treat.

Let me know what you think of them.

Peace & love,
The GFM xx

They are slowly going global, they’re a European brand.
